Show PreparationPrint

The production of each show at the New Digital Planetarium is a process that demands intensive work and lasts several months. Each autumn, the show topics are selected for the following year and the programming of each show begins. The director of the New Digital Planetarium usually writes the show scripts  and the   technical staff collects all the animation scenes and prepares the various visual elements required.  The soundtrack is then recorded and processed (narration, music and sound effects).
The complete show is reviewed repeatedly  to ensure its thoroughness from every aspect, including automation, visual representation and sound.  Finally, after  this intensive process is concluded ,  the show is ready to be  presented to the public. To better serve the needs of the New Digital Planetarium, various production and organisational units have been established which help each other in creating the educational services provided :

Educational Unit: the unit responsible for exploring the various educational needs in issues of audiovisual infrastructure and  programs, determining the objectives of each component and organising and producing these  programs.

Production Studio: a fully equipped studio for processing the fulldome animation used in the Planetarium shows, programming the real-time scenes and creating the fulldome videos for the shows. It includes 3 separate computer slicing farms for slicing the videos for the fulldome video system.

Electronics-Automation Unit: a specially equipped automation lab that serves as the basis for all electronic devices required by the Planetarium's operation in hardware and software. Some of the electronic devices have been especially constructed  for the New Digital Planetarium and  have  subsequently been introduced to  other planetariums abroad.

Multimedia Unit: a plethora of computer systems to organise and integrate the various elements (narrative, sound, graphics, images and video) of interactive multimedia in the educational CD-ROM development  programs.

Sound Studio: a fully equipped recording studio, including a soundproof recording booth, in which all our planetarium soundtracks are recorded Storage Farm: a 30 TB storage disk space where all the data (images, videos etc.) used for the planetarium shows are safely stored.
